JAZZ AT THE LIBRARY releases 2018 Concert schedule

THORNBURY JAZZWORKS booked an impressive array of artists for this spring, starting on Friday March 2 with the Lisa Martinelli / Kevin Turcotte Quartet,.

Lisa Martinelli is a renowned jazz vocalist and music educator, heading the Vocal Studies program at Humber College. Kevin Turcotte is recognized as one of Canada’s major trumpet players who provided the trumpet tracks for the Chet Baker movie Born to be Blue. Nancy Walker on piano and Kieran Overs on bass make this a powerful ensemble which is not often heard together.

Drew Jurecka, the exciting jazz violinist/clarinetist comes on March 23. Classically trained, Drew reminds one of Stephane Grappelli or Joe Venuti and far beyond , with Tom Szczesniak on piano and Clark Johnston on bass.

JAZZMANIA Weekend opens on Friday April 27 featuring the Mike Grace Quintet with  Mike returning on saxes and clarinet, Chris Cigolea on trumpet, John McLeland on piano, and Steve James on drums.

Ted’s Warren Commission on May 25 brings back Ted Warren with his own quartet featuring Ted on drums, Mike Malone on trumpet, Ted Quinlan on guitar and Pat Collins on bass.

Back by popular demand on June 22 Dean Hollin will be on stage at the Marsh Street Centre introducing his brand new show Rodgers & H .The first part the program will highlight the works of Richard Rodgers with his long time lyricist Lorenz Hart .The second part is dedicated to the fabulous music and lyrics created by Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II.

These two song writing teams fundamentally changed musical theatre in North America with their unforgettable melodies, many of which became jazz standards, such as Bewitched, Bothered And Bewildered , I Could Write A Book and many more.
