Known for excellence in musical performance, the Thornbury Jazzworks Fall Series starts on Friday September 8th 2017 with Collingwood entertainer Dean Hollin bringing his Cole Porter show straight from a run at the Grand Theatre in London,Ontario. Titled “Cole-Hearted”, this musical biography celebrating the life, times and music of Cole Porter features one of the most important composers of classic Jazz.
Dean’s performance is packed with wonderful music and delightful whimsical stories about the times when Jazz was the major art form in North America.
He will be accompanied by a jazz trio led by Steve Thomas, Musical Director of Charlottetown Festival and Drayton Festival Theatres. As this production requires a theatre stage setting, it will be held at the Marsh Street Centre.
Back at the Library, Friday September 29th 2017 we welcome Bob DeAngelis, one of Canada’s most accomplished instrumentalists. A master of the clarinet, in his illustrious career Bob has entertained royalty and presidents. He won the Juno Award for best instrumental album in 2004.
On Friday October 27th 2017 the Chantry Island Quartet will perform the rarely heard Suite No.1 for Flute and Jazz Piano Trio by Claude Bolling. This composition was particularly popular during the 1970-1980s in the United States and was on the Billboard magazine’s Top 40 for 530 weeks, almost 10 years.
Meryl Gillmore, Principal Flute of the Georgian Bay Symphony Orchestra will be the soloist.
Closing the season on Friday November 24th 2017, JAZZ AT THE LIBRARY will host the CD Release Party of the new album by Mary-Catherine Pazzano.
MC, as the rising jazz vocalist is known, is no stranger to JATL and will have the
Don Buchanan Quartet to provide the harmonies for her amazing voice.
